The second KIGS communication on side effects of growth hormone therapy

As of March 25, 1992, serious side effects were registered in 135 patients out of 16,604 who were included in the Kaba Pharmacia International Growth Study (KIGS) and who received growth hormone therapy for at least one year. Among the most common side effects were recurrences of craniopharyngioma (17 patients) and other brain tumors (11 patients) . Changes in the bone tissue, vessels, and muscles were observed more infrequently. Seven patients had convulsions. Further information is required to assess the effects of growth hormone therapy on these complications.
