'Hormonal bursectomy' was produced by dipping hatching eggs in testosterone solution. This treatment considerably increased embryonic and chick hatching mortality. Efficacy was assessed by weighing the main lymphoid organs and by histological examination of the bursa. The bursectomy impaired or prevented the development of precipitins to bovine serum albumen but did not alter the immunity produced by irradiated Syngamus trachea larvae when the chicks were later challenged with normal larvae.
