The continuation from 1971-1975 of the fertility decline in Sri Lanka that commenced in 1960 was studied. New trends in contraceptive practice, especially of female sterilizations in 1974-1976, are discussed and change in the pattern of childbearing is identified. The fertility decline is compared with that in Taiwan.
