Evaluation of the activity of vindeburnol by spectral analysis of human EEG

The aim of this trial was to assess the psychopharmacological activity of a single dose of 20 mg of vindeburnol by means of computerized EEG. Ten healthy volunteers (mean age 23.3 years) were included in this double blind cross over placebo controlled study. EEG were recorded on magnetic analog tape before and 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 and 180 minutes after the administration of vindeburnol or placebo tablet and processed off line by a computer in order to calculate power spectral densities. Statistical analysis showed that vindeburnol increased significantly (p<0.05) delta and theta waves. Such a EEG profile is characteristic of psychostimulant and nootropic drugs.
