This paper considers the consumption patterns of cooking fuels, the cost of fuel consumption and the consumption pattern of cooking energy, in selected villages, in the northern agroclimate zone of Gujarat state, India, during 1988/89. A data sample was grouped into 2 broad categories, those with gobar gas plants and non-plant owners. With respect to the former group, the sample was sub-divided again into 4 groups in accordance with the capacity of the plants. Results indicated that gobar gas plants were a cheaper source of fuel than dung-cakes.
