Emetine in the treatment of virus hepatitis

The authors followed up the effect of small doses of emetine on the clinical course of 90 cases of hepatitis type A and B. Favourable results were obtained after administering emetine alone or in combination with prednisone. The procedure helped to achieve a speedier improvement of the patients' general condition, an earDer return to normal laboratory findings as well as to a reduced number of relapses of the disease in contrast to a group of patients kept on prednisone alone.
