The attitudes and opinions of 79 male physicians from Sudan towards female circumcision were studied . The general awareness of the surveyed sample of physicians about the types of female circumcision and the subsequent complications was considered deficient and reflected on the shortcomings of the university medical education. A fairly large proportion (33%) of respondents believed that female circumcision is connected with religion and morality. Others believed that the topic of female circumcision is among the forbidden taboos. Of 32 married respondents, 15% preferred to have circumcised daughters. However, the majority of bachelor respondents preferred an uncircumcised wife (88%) and uncircumcised daughter (95%).
