Effect of an anion-active detergent on the skin and the hair cycle in rats

Studies were carried out in 65 rats of the Wistar strain. In each of 4 experimental groups (each of them including 13 animals) an anion-active detergent was applied in various concentrations (pure, 50%, 15% and 1,5%) to a depilated focus every day. Group V constituted control. During 65-day experiment it has been demonstrated that pure detergent and its 50% solution cause lesions with features of toxic inflammation as early as after o few days and the extent of skin injury depends on concentration of the detergent. The pure detergent changes also spontaneous and induced hair cycle and during telogen synchronization diffuse alopecia occurs.
