The effect of three concentrations of a synthetic detergent on animal body weight, skin reactions and certain selected intracellular enzymes in skin has been investigated by guinea pig whole body immersion test. Skin reactions showed slight to well developed erythema. The activities of acid and alkaline phosphatases increased at 2.5 and 5.0% concentrations, while glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogeanse and B-glucoronidase increased at 1.0, 2.5 and 5% concentrations and succinic dehydrogenase decreased at highest exposure group.
