Hypoglycemic coma in a patient treated with glipizide and fluconazole: a possible interaction?

A case is reported in a 66-yr-old diabetic woman with systemic Candida infection who received both glipizide (2.5 mg 3 times daily) and fluconazole (200 mg/d). The patient was admitted in a hypoglycaemic coma 4 d after fluconazole was started. She recovered after the administration of glucose solution. Glipizide was stopped and the fluconazole dose was reduced to 100 mg/d with no recurrence of hypoglycaemia. The possible interaction of glipizide and fluconazole is discussed.
