Early neonatal mortality at Ramathibodi Hospital 1979-1983

Early neonatal mortality rate and causes of death from 32,673 infants born at Ramathibodi Hospital from 1979 to 1983 were studied. There was a decrease of early neonatal mortality rate from 7.0 in 1979 to 3.4 in 1983. The leading cause of death was congenital anomalies (28.1%) followed by IRDS (23.9%), immaturity (17.4%) and infection (15.0%). Prevention is desirable in order to reduce both morbidity and mortality.
