F1 diallel crosses were made between 5 inbred lines of mice, viz. L.G, B5LG/LA, B5LG/LB, B5LG/SC and B5LG/SE, for the purpose of studying genes affecting body size. The last 4 lines were derived from the LG line by repeated backcrossing followed by inbreeding, and differences between them are believed to be due to a small number of genes. A possible sex-limited effect of genes on body size was revealed.
