A review of the population redistribution that has occurred as a result of development in Zambia is first presented. A general pattern of migration from rural areas to the Copperbelt and Lusaka is noted. The policies developed by the government since Independence to reduce spatial imbalances as part of development stategy are listed, and the practical ineffectiveness of such policies to date is noted.
