Cassiterite occurs in the contact zone of the Rondonia granite pluton with the crystalline rocks of the Precambrian shield and in two types of placers in the upper Amazon river basin in Brazil and adjacent parts of Bolivia. The detrital cassiterite deposits consist of those associated with surficial laterite and those associated with stream alluvium. Topaz and ilmenite are the principal accompanying minerals.
