Variations in the age at menarche due to physical exercise and altitude

Three groups of Indian females: sporstwomen, women from high altitude and women from plains, were studied for age at menarche. The women from plains had earliest menarche (.hivin.x = 13.3 .+-. 0.7 yr) as compared to sportswomen (.hivin.x = 15.7 .+-. 1.5 years) and women from high altitude (.hivin.x = 16.5 .+-. 1.2 yr). The difference between age at menarche in all the 3 groups was significant. The mean age at menarche for these 3 groups was compared with that of the females belonging to different population groups.
