Information was collected on 1026 dogs in 575 households during 1993. The ratio of persons per dog was 2.63. 85% of the households had at least 1 dog. Most of the animals were intact (92.22%), adult (38.2%), mongrels (61.85%) and kept as guards (65%). Dogs were primarily received as gifts (57.77%) and 45% of the dogs were allowed to live part or full time on the street. Most of the rabies vaccinations (94.6%) were given free by government campaigns. 89.86% of the dogs were primarily fed on leftovers.
