Pemphigus foliaceus. Use of antimalarial agents as adjuvant therapy

Three cases of pemphigus foliaceus in patients aged more than 60 years are reported, in whom treatment with prednisone (60 to 100 mg daily) was only partially successful. In each case the addition of hydroxychloroquine (200 mg twice/day) resulted in resolution of the skin lesions and a drop in immunofluorescent pemphigus antibody titres, allowing discontinuation of the corticosteroids.
