A case of primary echinococcosis or hydatid disease of the temporal bone is reported in which no other organ system was involved. Epidemiology, diagnostic problems, clinical findings and therapy in relationship to the available literature are reviewed. In the patient described, complete surgical removal of the parasitic cysts was required as well as chemotherapy with Mebendazole.
