Fluorescent pseudomonads--a residual component in the soil microflora?

In a bare-fallow sandy terra rossa and a bare fallow and cropped red-brown earth, fluorescent pseudomonads were unevenly distributed and were associated with particulate organic matter. In the terra rossa, inorganic soil particles and 5 mm aggregates were devoid of fluorescent pseudomonads. The highest number of fluorescent pseudomonads occurred on partly decomposed wheat straw in contact with wet soil. Fluorescent pseudomonads represented 5.6% and 0.2%, respectively, of the aerobic bacteria on living wheat roots and in soil shaken from the roots.
