The occurrence of increased MBL in situ appears to be related to excess endometrial H2O2 formation. Since several antioxidants including vitamin E can control peroxidation of tissue lipids, a clinical trial of vitamin E was undertaken in IUCD-fitted patients. All subjects responded positively to treatment and the MBL was restored to normal limits.
