Acute and chronic toxicity studies of DDT in albino rats

The following is substantially the authors' abstract. The results of experimental studies of DDT administered orally to albino rats are reported. The acute oral LD50 was found to be 118-7 mg/kg body weight. DDT (100 p.p.m.) in the diet for a period of six months did not adversely affect mortality or body growth and caused no apparent change in physical behaviour. There was a significant increase in liver weight and a shortening of pentobarbitone sleeping time.
