An autoantibody-like factor reactive with liver parenchymal cells in the serum of the pig

An IgM autoantibody in pig serum, which reacted with suspensions of autologous liver cells, was demonstrated by the mixed antiglobulin reaction and by immune adherance. Suspensions of pig liver cells obtained after perfusion showed no evidence that they had been already exposed to this antibody. This suggests that liver cells are not in free contact with the circulating plasma, and that the fluid in the space of Disse is free of IgM molecules. A similar factor was not found in the g. pig, rabbit or man, although traces were found in mouse serum.
