With reference to the communication of Boulot et al. in Presse Medicale 1990 19, p. 570, results obtained in 103 children with congenital toxoplasmosis (TC), 52 of which were born to mothers treated with pyrimethamine-sulfadiazine (PS) when foetal blood analysis indicated TC and 51 infants born to mothers treated with spiramycin and diagnosed as having TC after birth, are reviewed. The results suggest that PS therapy had a significant effect on placental infection and antibody synthesis by the foetus and the neonate, that it reduced the frequency of hyperalbuminaemia in the CSF and reduced the frequency of clinical CF. It had no effect on the subsequent development of chorioretinitis or intracranial calcifications.
