Severn research journals were studied to find out what articles pertaining to handicapped persons in a leisure context had been published during the past 10 years. Results show a lack of research on the disabled in recreation, and virtually nothing on the disabled in heritage areas that is based on research. The article then identifies four priorities for future research; profiles of handicapped users of heritage areas; impacts of these users and associated facilities; related policy and management aspects; and more dissemination of research and innovations at an international as well as national level.
