The plaintiff, an inmate in a United States federal prison, sought help from prison authorities in impregnating his wife by means of artificial insemination. The Court ruled that the prisoner had no fundamental constitutional right to father a child through artificial insemination and that prison authorities, thus, did not have to help him do so.
