Among other things, this Act provides that the directives of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences are to be applied in matters relating to artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization. It also provides that the directives of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences are to be applied in matters relating to voluntary sterilization for contraceptive purposes, with the proviso that Article 122 of the Swiss Penal Code is not violated. Article 122 prohibits the mutilation of the "important organs" of any person and the rendering of any organ improper for its purpose.
