The effect of rural wastes on the biological and physicochemical properties of a village pond in Santhal Pargana, Bihar, India, were evaluated between January 1994 and December 1996. The wastes had a negative impact on the pond water quality and its biological characteristics. The water was suitable for irrigation purposes but was not of high enough quality for human consumption.
