The article looks at the practical setting of participation in the work of and with female communities in a rural setting. The example of the women's educational programme (or Programa Educativo de la Mujer: PAEM) is suggested, where rural women in the north-western sector of Honduras are autonomously developing educational and organizational work. PAEM is described in some detail, before going on to evaluate its methodological contributions. Popular forms of communication, such as dance, poetry, customs, etc., are described as becoming true methodological approaches to popular communication. A description of the study of the oral tradition and gender issues covered by PAEM concludes the article.
