This study confirms that BRL 43694 affords significant protection against cisplatin-induced emesis in dogs. Though there was a dramatic decrease in the mean number of emetic episodes per dog, complete protection was observed in only 40% of the animals tested. This, we think, is cause for concern. BRL 43694 did not provide any protection to apomorphine-induced emesis, which suggests that in its anti-emetic action it does not affect the motor component of the emetic reflex.
