A sample of 90 farmers (consisting 45 maize growers and 45 sorghum growers) in the Reddiarchathiram block of Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, India, were interviewed to analyse the socio-economic characteristics of dryland farmers. Results revealed that most of the maize and sorghum growers were old aged, possessed high educational status, and had agriculture as a main occupation.
