Women in three districts of Tamil Nadu - Madurai, Trichy and Ramnad - are being selected for training in animal husbandry and are provided with loans to buy livestock. So far, over 200 women in five villages in the Madurai district have been helped to acquire a buffalo and a sheep; 105 women have been given a three-day training course at the nearby Agricultural College, Madurai. A locally educated young technician lives in the project villages and arranges for marketing produce and procurement of inputs. There are also group leaders selected to help groups of up to 30 women.
