Pulmonary phaeohyphomycosis due to Xylohypha bantiana

A case is reported in a 49-yr-old woman with a history of steroid-treated inflammatory bowel disease, who was found to have a lung nodule consisting of granulomas that contained dark hyphal fragments that stained positively with the argentaffin reaction. X. bantiana was cultured from the lesion. Surgical excision was curative. Pulmonary phaeohyphomycosis is discussed.
