Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy in the complex treatment of patients with cholelithiasis

The role and position of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy among other methods for the treatment of cholelithiasis were investigated. The method was used in 189 patients. It was found that extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is an effective means to treat cholelithiasis in patients with carefully selected indications for the procedure. The effectiveness of lithotripsy depends on the size of the stones, the thickness of the calcium capsule, evacuatory capacity of the gallbladder and the number of sessions. Recommendations were made for avoiding some disadvantages of the method.
