After reporting on the frequency and contradictions of premenstrual syndrome, the author describes his own observations using two different oral contraceptives (Ovidon and Anteovin) with different hormone dominances for the treatment of women with this syndrome. Both products of either progestagen or oestrogen dominance favourably influenced the mean value of the index elaborated for this special purpose, but a certain hormone-dependent change of symptoms could be observed in the patients. Certain symptoms of the premenstrual symdrome responded better to the effect of tablets with oestrogen dominance, while others to those with progestagen dominance. Considering all these observations, the author suggest the use of a more differentiated therapy.
