Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of blindness over the age of 50. The patho-physiological changes and clinical findings in AMD are outlined. Recent findings indicate that some cases of AMD-related choroidal neovascularization can be successfully treated with argonlaser. These results are discussed from a Swedish perspective, and the need of a meticulous work-up is emphasized.
