The technique of participatory research in community development

The paper describes how partnership in the participatory research process actually occurred as part of a community development programme in the Apasan villages of the Oluyole East local government area of Oyo State, Nigeria. The major problems of the villages were identified through discussions on isolation and food scarcity. These problems heightened poverty and destitution among the people and led to widespread migration of able-bodied people from the villages to the towns. Projects were established to tackle these problems using the participatory methodology. The paper outlines the features of the participatory technique and indicates the impact of the participatory research technique on the administration of the Apasan Project.
