Prevention of postoperative suppurative complications in patients with inflammatory diseases of the large intestine

The results of surgical treatment of 103 patients with inflammatory diseases of the colon were analysed. An unfavourable outcome was noted in presence before the operation of the disease complications, and deep metabolic disorders as well. A decrease in the level of serum albumins and hematocrit, increase in the leukocytic count and seromucoid level were prognostically informative. The use of endolymphatic antibiotic therapy in 66 patients operated on with increased risk for the development of complications permitted to reduce lethality after elective operations from 10% (in using the conventional methods of treatment) to 3.3%, after emergency operations--from 75 to 33.3%, respectively. The incidence of postoperative purulent complications has reduced significantly.
