Part of ILO's global project on the role of women and demographic change, this Indian case study is being undertaken by the Operations Research Group, New Delhi, with anthropologists posted for approximately 1 year in three villages and in one urban community in Uttar Pradesh. This guide identifies topics and related questions to serve as guidelines for interviewing members of selected households. The paper deals with selection of communities and households, the household census, in depth interviews, a community questionnaire, and additional observations of behaviour. Sample forms/questionnaires are provided.
