For the purpose of describing the heart rate variability, about 200 diagrams of the cardiac rhythm (cardiotachograms) were studied. Of these 200 diagrams such numerical limiting values were mathematically determined and elaborated which can already be implemented in the field of occupational medicine and can be made understood by the practice-oriented user. The possibility of making use of cardiotachograms for the evaluation of the individual psychophysiological display whenever difficult cases are encountered in occupational medicine represents a contribution towards improving the recognition and prevention of cardio-vascular diseases.
