The author provides an update on toxic blue green algae. A total of 15 dogs and 20 sheep are reported to have died because of algal blooms on Rutland Water, UK in the summer of 1989. No fish, bird or other animal deaths were recorded in this episode. Microcystin-LR a toxin produced by the blue green algae Microcystis aeruginosa was isolated from the rumen of one affected sheep.
