In terms of couple-years of protection, condoms make up for 73% of products delivered in social marketing projects worldwide, monitored by the Social Marketing Forum. 5.3 million couple-years of protection were achieved in the most recent data, including 16% pills, 11% IUDs, and 1% vaginal tablets. Programs with high sales of condoms were India (100%), Nepal (77%), and Bangladesh (75%). Other products were popular for example in Egypt where IUDs represented 65%, and Colombia, where pills represented 80% of protection. Factors influencing the results were government programs, normal retail trade practices, medical resistance, cultural acceptability and literacy rates.
