Consolidation of fractured fragments, provided that they are in contact with each other and immobilized, takes place due to growing of osteons from one fractured fragment to the other one. Necessary condition for consolidation in accordance with the given pattern is the action of force along the axis of the fractured fragments only when transverse and rotational forces have been relaxed. Fixatives act as periosteal and endosteal corns. Screws, plates, intramedullary nails are used for stable fixation in accordance with special methods. The experience of osteosynthesis application in accordance with AO in 78 patients indicates the necessity of careful execution, sparing technique, rigorous indication and, nevertheless, osteosynthesis considerably accelerates the rehabilitation of patients with fractures.
