The results of a census based on the municipal population registers of the Netherlands are presented. This special census was conducted in 1983 in order to evaluate the accuracy of the Dutch continuous system of population registration. The differences between the data from this special census and those from the continuous population registration system are noted and, except for the population over age 85, are found to be very small. Particular attention is paid to data concerning the resident alien population. (summary in ENG)
