Given the tremendous impact of managed care on hospitals' bottom lines, responsibility for managed care activities must be a full-time job. By creating the position of director of managed care, hospitals not only are making a commitment to truly managing their managed care activities, but they are sending a message to managed care providers that they take their contractual relationships seriously.
