Motives for rural women to participate in agricultural extension programs case study in fars province Iran

A random sample of 149 rural women who have participated in extension programmes for at least once in Iran were interviewed to examine their motives for participating. A total of 28 motives were recognized to be influencing rural women's participation, foremost of which is 'interest in learning'. Correlation coefficients between motives and participation in extension programmes show that 11 out of the 28 motives were statistically correlated. Based on the findings, it is recommended that pioneer rural women along with female extension agents should be the ones to implement extension programmes and motivate rural women to participate.
