This journal issue contains review articles focusing on the molecular biology/genetics of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and on the epidemiology, clinical aspects, diagnosis, treatment (e.g., highly active antiretroviral therapy), and prevention (e.g., vaccination) of HIV infection/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Original articles are also included, with topics on the occurrence of Enterocytozoon bieneusi or Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection among HIV-infected patients. Social and ethical issues regarding HIV/AIDS, and some internet-based resources for HIV/AIDS research are also presented.
