Sick sinus syndrome in myocardial infarct

Patients (755) with large focal myocardial infarction, in 14 of which sick sinus syndrome was diagnosed, were observed. As a rule, sick sinus syndrome is developed when myocardial infarction is located in the lower wall region. Frequently sick sinus syndrome is combined with atrioventricular block. The mortality rate of patients with this syndrome is not different from that of other myocardial infarction patients. Constant or paroxysmal atrial fibrillation were the only cardiac rhythm disorders observed in some patients 1 yr after they were discharged from the hospital. However, latent sinus node dysfunction remained in most of the patients after the disappearance of arrhythmia.
