Filarial ascites associated with carcinoma of the pancreas

A case report of a 68-year-old man who was admitted to the gastroenterology ward of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India, for carcinoma of the head of the pancreas in stage III, is presented. There were metastatic foci in the liver, kidneys and intestinal walls. The patient also had tense ascites; microfilaria of Wuchereria bancrofti were identified in smears of the ascitic fluid. The diagnosis and clinical symptoms are described in detail.
