Cellular coagulation in the Limulus has been described, and the striking similarities between Limulus amebocytes and mammalian platelets noted. During coagulation, amebocytes and mammalian platelets undergo apparently parallel changes. Amebocytes may contain the cellular counterpart of mammalian fibrinogen.
