The effects of ozone (O3) on the cellular and biochemical responses in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and the functional activity of Fc receptor of alveolar macrophage (AM) in rats were studied. The results showed that the functional activity of AM Fc receptor was decreased in the rats when exposed to 0.08 ppm O3 which concentration is approximately equal to the current National Ambient Air Quality Standard (the second grade). As the concentration of O2 was increased, the obvious changes in the cellular composition and biochemical indices occurred.
